Decent TV for the price

When the TV in the guest bedroom went on the fritz, I figured it was time for another. I have a TCL 4K 65" in the living room and a TCL 4K 55" in the man-cave plus a TCL 1080p 23" as my wife's computer monitor so it seemed a natural to go grab another TCL. BB had a 43" 4K in stock for a decent price so I grabbed it without thinking. I kind of wish I had thought first though as it turns out that this one has an Android interface where the other 3 sets I have are all Roku-based. Out of pure familiarity and nothing else, I wish I'd gotten the similar model with the Roku interface. I would have taken it back for an exchange but they didn't have a Roku-based one in stock locally and I was too lazy and impatient to wait for one to be ordered. Still, the TV is sharp, has good color, sounds OK and is easy to use.

If you're a die-hard, "Only Shatner can be Kirk!" kind of Star Trek fan, then these films are NOT for you. If instead you like personable, attractive actors inheriting and growing iconic roles, big budget special effects, decent (if necessarily derivative) storylines and good escapist entertainment, then these ARE for you. And they look marvelous on an HDR-capable 4K TV and sound just as good through a decent sound system. Plus the 3-pack is a LOT cheaper than buying them separately.

I'm not sure why electric range sold in the US don't include a cord that would plug into a standard US outlet, but there you go. They make you buy it separately and pay to have an installer to come, attach it to the stove and plug it in the wall. Well, they did it and it works. And even though I can't see the cord while the range is installed, it just bothers me to no end that it comes only in grey. Where are my fashionable choices? I want color!

After they were done, all I could do was stare in wonder while they showed me that all the burners actually warmed up and the oven could warm up as well! Improved over older Moto G, with a quirk or two

This replaced a Moto G Play that was a few years old and which was starting to give my wife issues. The CPU is faster, there is more built in RAM, the battery lasts longer and the cameras are better, all for about what I paid for the older phone a few years back.
I would give it 5 stars but my wife doesn't like a few things about it. It is a bit thicker and heavier than the old phone (blame the longer-lasting battery, I guess) and the newer Android version has done away with the old fixed "circle, square and triangle" icons at the bottom of the screen for getting out of the current app, showing all open apps and going back to the previous state. Instead, you sweep up from the bottom of the screen to get out of the current app and there doesn't seem to be a way to do the other two actions. She doesn't like that. Well, she doesn't like change and this is a change.
Would I recommend this to a friend? Yes, I have already to my sister-in-law and she bought it and likes it.

Good late-generation GPS with a few minor quirks

I'm one of those weirdos that prefers an actual GPS in my car instead of a phone app. I've been in the situation where you are following GPS directions on a phone app and the phone rang and you had to take the call and so lost critical directions during the call. Never again!
The display is huge, packed full of useful information and is clearly laid out. I'm biased in that I've had Garmin GPSs for about 20 years now but I prefer their UI over that of competitors like TomTom or Google Maps or Waze. This has lifetime map updates and traffic support (though you have to either wire it to a supplied antenna or Bluetooth it to your phone to get that).
One thing I ding it a star for is the fact that you cannot power it by plugging it into a USB port in your car (which my car has) - you HAVE to use the old school "cigarette lighter" connector. If you do plug it into a USB port, it goes into file transfer mode and won't act as a GPS. The other thing is that the UI has changed since my last model and it takes a couple more steps to do things like stop a current set of directions or go from the map to the "where to?" screen (the old models had icons on the map screen to do that.

This NOT the latest 4K, HDR-compatible QLED or Plasma TV. However, it's a pretty good full HD (1920x1080) resolution LCD TV with vibrant colors and a good implementation of Roku streaming built in. I bought it as a replacement for a monitor for my wife's PC and it looks great for that plus doubles as a TV and streaming device for a pretty darned low price. It's "only" a 32" screen, which is tiny by modern TV standards but is actually pretty large by computer monitor standards. I've got two other TCL TVs, both 4K, HDR-capable Series 6 units (one 55", one 65") and I've been pretty happy with them as well.

Many, many years ago, I bought my first hard drive. It ran about $400 and was a whopping 40 megabytes. To have gotten a 14 Tb drive with 350,000 times as much storage space (not to mention far faster access) for less than half of what I paid umpteen years ago (and that doesn't even take inflation into account) is mind boggling. I've had good luck with Western Digital drives, both internal and external, over the years and I expect I will with this one as well. The only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is that I haven't had it long enough to see how reliable it is.

I am connected to my Direct tv box and can hear/see it. But when I switch to am/fm, tv display goes away. I can’t listen to tv and tuner at same time? I still want the option to switch to HDMI and listen to game on receiver . Please help. Game week
Some higher-end A/V receivers have the option to mix-and-match audio and video inputs but more basic models like this one do not. Even on those that do, you usually have to dive down into a menu system to make these assignments - it isn't all that simple. And since most of the time you're likely to want to listen to the audio input from the same device as the video input, you would have to swap back and forth each time you wanted to listen to the radio or not while watching the TV.

I bought this drive to plug into my computer, and then plug an HDMI into my computer to display the movie on my monitor. This unit doesn't actually output the movie to my monitor. Am I doing something wrong?
This is NOT a DVD or Blu-ray "player" like you would plug into a TV. It does not decode the video or audio into a format your TV understands. It is a "reader" that can read files off a CD, DVD or Blu-ray and pass them to your computer. If your computer has the appropriate software to play the music files on a CD, it can pass it out to an amplifier or amplified speakers. If it has the appropriate software to play the video files on a DVD or Blu-ray, it can pass the video and audio via the HDMI cable you mention to your TV (and to your sound system if you have one). Windows does NOT include software to play video DVDs or Blu-rays and I don't think it has any for audio CDs. I don't know about Apple computers or PCs running Linux.
