The Equalizer 4K

The Equalizer's UHD release as an all-around performer it's quite the package. Rock-solid UHD video that's an upgrade over the Blu-ray, an Atmos soundtrack, and a handful of new extras make this a fairly appealing release and a worthwhile upgrade.

Better than the first

The fact that Deadpool 2 is actually able to get away with these, jokes as well as a couple of other kinda sorta heartfelt moments, is one of the key elements of what makes this rough and rowdy franchise so enjoyable. The humor here is as bitingly sharp as in the first film.

Dazzling stunts and thrill-a-minute action highlight this exhilarating fifth chapter in the popular film franchise. When the Impossible Missions Force is disbanded by the government, veteran agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is joined by mysterious MI6 operative Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) as he tries to bring down the Syndicate, a shadowy and sinister espionage agency every bit as dangerous as the IMF. With Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin, and Ving Rhames. 131 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English. Three-disc set.

Rogue Nation 4K

Despite being the first film in the Mission: Impossible series not to come from a true 4K source, the 2160p presentation is quite good, with refined sharpness. The Atmos audio is the picture's match and Paramount has even thrown in a new bonus disc with mostly new content. Highly recommended.

In the exciting fourth entry in the successful action series, an attack on the Kremlin leaves IMF agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team falsely accused of international terrorism. Forced to go underground, they must race against time to clear their names while trying to stop a plot to orchestrate a nuclear war between the United States and Russia. Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Paula Patton, Michael Nyqvist, and, in a cameo, Ving Rhames co-star in director Brad Bird's first live-action film. 132 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English. Three-disc set.

This UHD is leaps and bounds better than the previously released, and excellent, Blu-ray. The image just takes over the screen and dominates the viewing area. The intensity of color, the precision of detail, the cinematic texturing...everything about it immediately screams reference.

Ready for Player One in 4K

Verified Purchase:Yes
Ready Player One is Spielberg's most visually ambitious and digitally reliant picture yet, he is one of only a few filmmakers who could make Ready Player One and actually make it mean something. This is a digital extravaganza, but it's all Spielberg and all heart, the high-quality 2160p/Dolby Vision video, near reference Atmos audio, and a handful of featurettes.

Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt is back, this time sent to Australia to track down ex-compatriot Sean Ambrose (Dougray Scott) who has swiped the antidote for a deadly, genetically altered flu bug from a bio-tech firm. Hunt recruits a gorgeous thief (Thandie Newton) and former lover of Ambrose's to help him save the world. John Woo's high-adrenaline action-thriller also stars Anthony Hopkins, Ving Rhames; scripted by Robert Towne. 123 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English. Two-disc set.

Mission: Impossible II 4K

This 2160p/Dolby Vision presentation that's a thing of beauty. Much like the first film's UHD, there are some softer focus shots here and there, but they're interspersed amongst some impressively rendered close-ups. The Dolby Vision color palette is terrific, too. The level of refinement, natural intensity, increase in white brilliance, and add to black depth are all first-class. The image finds heightened color clarity and punch, never betraying the film's core color construction but only adding a level of realism to the presentation. no new extras are included, the carryover supplements are fine

This UHD's textural improvements over the Blu-ray are more incremental than they are substantial. On this disc, the improvements brought by the Dolby Vision color enhancement are more substantial than the image's textural qualities. No new extras are included but this three-disc set does carry over all previously released content.

The image looks gorgeous. There's no mistaking its crisp, seamless cinematic bonafides. Grain can be a little heavy in select shots, but it's often very even, albeit well pronounced. It's flattering and gorgeously rendered. The 12-bit Dolby Vision colors are a great improvement over the Blu-ray as well. Whites are more intense and clean, flesh tones are far more balanced, and the entire palette enjoys a significant increase in color depth, vibrance, and yield. It's much more evenly presented. No new extras are included, but the carryover Blu-ray offers plenty.
