I’ve got this drive and the pics I’ve moved from my phone appear to no longer be “Live Photos.” What am I doing wrong or does the drive not support Apple Live Photo’s?

If your ipad has the most up to date IOS and has a usb-c plug then yes. It works thru the files app. My ipad is the 2020 edition and it works. Easy to use with no problems.
