Very happy with Google's new Chromecast. The remote is a little bit small for my hand, but the directions arrows and the select button are in the perfect position at the top of the remote where your fingers will always find them. The Chromecast itself is amazing. It is far superior to the earlier versions. The apps are very easy to install, and it is possible to add a USBC hub to it so that it can play movies & music off of USB devices (thumb drives and hard drives). I mainly use it for viewing my Plex server, but also with Amazon Prime, HBO Max and Peacock. I have a smart Samsung TV, but the apps rarely get updated or improved, so this is a much better way to add smart capabilities to a TV than relying on the manufacturer's half-hearted attempt to implement smart TV capability.
The 9th film from Quentin Tarantino is a seriocomic mix of fact and fiction set in 1969 Los Angeles. As the sun prepares to set on Hollywood's Golden Age, fading TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) attempts to revive his career, and he and longtime stunt double and pal Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) find themselves crossing paths with actress Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie) and several members of the Manson Family. With Emile Hirsch, Dakota Fanning, Bruce Dern, Al Pacino, and Kurt Russell. 161 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English.

Trainspotting is a guilty pleasure. This sequel is more subdued but still a lot of fun. I really enjoyed getting to see what these characters were up to so many years later. And it didn't disappoint!

I am a diehard Star Trek fan who grew up watching the Original series in syndication. The new movies are okay. Chris Pine actually has developed into a fairly decent Kirk. I have a lot of complaints with each of these movies, but overall I think they are decent and entertaining. My favorite is Star Trek Into Darkness. While I wish they didn't try and re-tred Khan's story, if you ignore that point (and his magical fountain-of-youth blood) that movie is actually quite solid. And this collection is the only way to get all the extra bonus material that was included with retailer-specific bluray releases.

This movie is not good. Although, I was surprised at how much I did enjoy Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo. He wasn't originally my favorite pick for this role, but I think he kinda pulls it off. The problem is the story is just incredibly lifeless and uninteresting. It's like a really bad paint-by-the-numbers exercise where the screenwriters scoured every bit of dialog in the original trilogy for anything related to Han Solo's back story and created a list which needed every scrap or detail needed to check off. Of course they included a ridiculously bad "kessel run" sequence that had almost no significance to the story whatsoever... and was over within a couple minutes. Even the Millennium falcon's lifeboat made no sense plot-wise. It was just there to make the ship look a bit different for a while. Some things just need to be left to the imagination, but Disney just can't pass up the blatant cash-grab.

I had low expectations for this movie as I heard it did poorly at the box office, but it is a very entertaining time travel sci-fi combat movie that kept me entertained despite all the early repetition as the main character tries to figure out what's going on. Definitely Tom Cruise's best movie in a while and Emily blunt is great as well. Hoping for a sequel...
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

Even after lowering the expectation bar dramatically after the tremendous debacle that was Prometheus, this sequel still managed to disappoint. They totally destroyed any interest by dropping the Elizabeth Shaw character from the story and instead totally focussing on the completely boring David android. Not to mention that it continued to even further to underwhelm the viewer with how ridiculously flawed the "godlike" Engineers are. So basically, anything that was remotely interesting from Prometheus was ignored -- not to mention the entirety of the Alien franchise. On the plus side, the production quality was quite good.

I liked this movie. I t was well made and entertaining, but it didn't really feel like a Mad Max movie as much as I'd hoped for. Tom Hardy just didn't seem like th best choice to play Max, but it still fun to watch. Not bad in 3D either...
