Romeo & Juliet Sparkes on the Broadway Stage.

Although there are several beautiful film adaptation og Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, it is this Broadway sataging that captures the essence of Shakespearte's beautiful text. The performances led by Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad are all executed with warmth and passion. Thye entire cast is brilliant. Minus all the special effects and departures in portraying the script as written by the Bard, one is treated to what Shakespeare intended his audiences to witness. It was to hear and listen to the brilliant written text which makes this one of, if not, the most popular play the Bard ever wrote.

POIROT ROCKS!

EVIL UNDER THE SUN is another awesome Agatha Christie who-done-it to relish, with an excellent cast throughout. In particular, this tale keeps you guessing until Poirot details the clues and the murderer at the end. This is a real puzzler because everyone has an alibi, but Poirot is the master puzzle solver.
Petere Ustinov is superb, and Maggie Smith turns in another bravura turn as the hotel owner. Buy the DVD..you'll love it. Even if you are a seasoned Christie fan or not. This is a winner!!!

The Modern Family Final Season Has Seen Its Day!
on August 22, 2020

This remarkable, funny series has had brilliant moments during its history, and the episodes of the final season, some very funny, but overall, straining to get a laugh. It is time to say, "GOODBYE" I was hopeful the final season of this comedy series would be funnier, and although it brings a happy end to its 11 year life, it was time to lay to rest.

The 1916 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea is Historic!
on August 22, 2020

Verified Purchase:Yes
Although this 1916 film isn't Jules Verne's classic, with its sill and contrived screenplay plot, the cinematic imagery of the 4K restoration is polished ands clean, and not to mention its impressive and historic first underwater cinematography. Too bad Technicolor wasn't around in then. It's not match to the beautiful Disney classic, but for Jukes Verne enthusiasts, it's worth buying and watching this century old motion picture.

CORPUS CHRISTI! DISTURBING & ILLUMINATIN CINEMA
on July 25, 2020
Posted by: Sophie118
Verified Purchase:Yes
Corpus Christi was indeed an excellent entry for the 2020 Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.
It is a disturbing look at reality. The central character in this Polish masterwork cannot fulfill his dream of becoming an ordained Catholic priest because he served time for murder. With all good intentions, he happenstances and lies to a parish priest that he is is ordained. His ministry is blatantly honest and forward, which eventually endears him to his parishioners.
Eventually, though, his secret is revealed and he is sent back to his reformatory, where he was bullied and eventually faces his bully, whom he kills in a fight. His fellow prisoners knowing allow him to escape and again rather than face another murder crime.
Cinema that is starkly realistic and unpatronizing is a showcase of brilliant acting, cinematically excellent and will move every viewer to evaluate whether our protagonist should have remained a priest.
Corpus Christi is brilliant and memorable filmmaking.

ANTONIO GAUDI SPELLBINDS WITH ARTISTIC BRILLIANCE
on June 27, 2020
Posted by: Sophie118
Verified Purchase:Yes
Criterion over the years has showcased films about individual artisans that preserves them for all to enjoy. Antonio Gaudi was a Spanish Catalan architect who designed some of our world's most astonishing buildings, internal architecture and wondrous parks.
Japanese film director, Hiroshi Teshigahara, captures Gaudi's inventive and incredibly imaginative artistic style in a documentary that is more a visual poem, especially centering on Gaudi's unfinished masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia Basilica in Barcelona, Spain that immortalizes Gaudi's extraordinary artistry with bold stylistically sensual camera work that is artistically wondrous as the arcitect's structural building, interiors and parks.

Six Moral Tales Speaks A Profound Voice
on June 27, 2020
Posted by: Sophie118
Verified Purchase:Yes
Having owned Eric Rohmer's SIX MORAL TALES when it was first released through Criterion, I was eager to upgrade my collection to Blu-ray.
All six remarkable films are erotic and sexy, are contemporary and modern for cinema of the 1960-70's. They are daring in nature, yet philosophically liberating, yet unbiased.
Each film deals directly with a succession of encounters of men who are emotionally fragile in nature and the women who deliriously tempt them.
The films are character studies set against seasonal landscapes are imaginative vivid.
All I can say is watching all six film masterpieces of the personal human experiences are breathtakingly original, yet lasting in the viewers memory.
I must congratulate Criterion for preserving these multifaceted personal and deepl moving works in one incredible cinema collection.
