The software will keep working even if you don't want to upgrade to the newest version. The ability to sync Quicken from your computer to your mobile device is time-limited and does require buying update. If you don't plan to use this feature, then it will continue working indefinitely.

I have a very old version on my Mac, but now I need the software for my PC. Can I convert existing data from my Mac to the new PC version?
That's a great question for you to submit to Quicken online help and support. I think the ease of doing this will depend on specifically which older version you are using. They will be able to specify the steps you need to take to migrate from your old to new software.
