Does this function like an ethernet cable? My computer has no built-in wifi and the old wifi to usb adapter I dug out doesn't work (which might be because it's from the mid 2000s). So does this adapter work with ethernet only computers?
If you don't have a USB connector, you can't connect this item. If you do, and you have a CD/DVD drive, you can install the drivers and be good to go.

Can I connect a printer with only an USB port to a Wifi network with this device?
No. You need the drivers to make it connect.

I have an ACER laptop and the internal wifi adapter is no longer working so I have no access to the internet on the laptop. The laptop also does not have a CD drive. Can I install this adapter without accessing the internet and without a CD.
If you have wired ethernet access, you can download the drivers for this adapter and then go from there. That is how best buy's geek squad did it for me.

Easiest to just use the My Cloud WD software. It makes the device appear on your computer automatically. If you do it through your phone, you can get auto backup for all your photos.
