I didn't see this movie in its theatrical run, but I was aware it had smashed box office records for a horror film and had received great reviews. So I took a chance and bought it. Eh, it was okay. It's not a lousy film at all, but I also didn't think it was the earth-shattering, knockout movie I was expecting it to be after hearing all the reviews. Honestly, I didn't think it was all that much more amazing than the classic made-for-TV movie that starred the great Tim Curry. I should've just stuck with that one and been satisfied with it. This remake isn't one that I'll probably rewatch numerous times.

Let's face it: nothing will ever come remotely close to or top John Carpenter's original 1978 "Halloween" film. But after a string of disastrous sequels and wretched Rob Zombie remakes, this "Halloween" was a breath of fresh, scary air. David Gordon Green and Danny McBride come from a comedy background, so it was remarkable that they pulled off this feat of making such a thrilling, very well-made film. Of course, it helped that they had the Master -- John Carpenter himself -- on board to supervise the production and to compose the music. Carpenter was the missing ingredient from all those other awful movies, and his presence here made it work. And of course, Jamie Lee Curtis gives a terrific, rip-roaring performance as a traumatized, haunted Laurie Strode. Fine supporting cast as well.

I'm a movie buff, so sometimes I still get a hankering for family films if they're done well. And I'm an animal lover, especially dogs, so I'm kind of a sucker for dog movies. I took a chance on this one, and I liked it a lot. It's a cute movie.

"The Martian" is one of Ridley Scott's true masterpieces. It's difficult to summarize all the many, many, many great things about it. It's just a magnificent, classic work of art. And at the center of it all is a knockout performance by Matt Damon. I love this film.

I've always been a huge Godzilla fan. I love the big guy. But I've always been iffy about when non-Japanese filmmakers produce Godzilla movies. However, with all the modern technical wizardry and resources at their command, they still can't seem to manage to craft good stories with likable, interesting characters. "Godzilla: King of the Monsters" is no exception to that --- like Roland Emmerich's disastrous movie in the '90s and the movie that preceded this one, it's too self-serious, pretentious, lumbering, and tiresome. The director and writer tried throwing all the classic monsters into the same movie in an evident gamble at making an exciting movie, but it's just NOT exciting. It's too long and too dull. I was very disappointed. No, from now on I'll take the original, fun, silly Japanese films -- with the actors dressed in rubber suits -- where my boy G goes around like a temper-tantrum toddler throwing hissy hits while kicking and trampling model buildings, thank you very much.

Upon its theatrical release, Ridley Scott's "The Counselor" received poor reviews and even during its home video life hasn't always fared well in viewers' reviews. But I really like it a lot. It's not a movie for everyone. But I'm a huge Ridley Scott fan, and I "get" this film. It's visually stunning and compelling.

I already had a Google Home Mini and wanted to get a second one. After some research, I learned that Home Mini's were now Nest Mini's, so I bought this one. It works exactly like Home Mini, yet it has a fairly improved sound quality. I'm pleased with it.

I'd searched high and low for affordable floor speakers to add to the home stereo system I was piecing back together after years of not being able to listen to my vinyl LPs. I wasn't able to find any within my budget range, so I decided to buy bookshelf speakers instead. I spent a long time researching and ultimately decided on these. WOW, they're surprisingly great speakers and put out some powerful, clear, high-quality sound! I never jack my volume way up out of courtesy to my duplex neighbor, so these work perfectly for my needs, yet they're still powerful. Very happy with these.

I researched for a long time trying to find an affordable turntable that was within my budget range yet was high-quality. I finally decided on this one, and I haven't regretted it. It's a very excellent turntable. I've been thrilled to bring my old vinyl LPs out of storage and listen to them again. This turntable brings out their richness well.

"A Star is Born" is everything you heard and more. It's a heartbreaking, masterful directorial debut by Bradley Cooper...just amazing to realize this is his FIRST directing job. He knew what the heck he was doing, and it shows. And he's just as brilliant as an actor here as he is a director. But the real, magnetic revelation is, of course, Lady Gaga. I'm a huge Gaga fan, and she knocked her leading role debut out of the stratosphere. You just watch slack-jawed at how stunning, self-assured, and heartbreaking she is in "A Star is Born". A movie star was definitely born.
