I just lost two HDDs because of the rampant power outages we've had recently. Installed this into the mix...allowed me graceful shutdown time to prevent more damage in the following two power outages!

What's great about it: Simple to install, good price, and good design
What's not so great: It's not free!
I purchased this to move my boot from a SATA to SSD. With little effort, it's up and running, seemlessly transferred all of the information necessary to become the boot, and markedly improved the performance of my AV rig.
This product has... Reliable, Fast, Quiet, Large capacity/good size

Protecting a Desktop PC

I am confused by the answer to a prior question which I copied below. I need to surge protect a desktop PC plus external drives, router etc., but also if there is a power outage I need enough battery backup to allow me to save files on my desktop PC and/or external drive and then close everything down. Will it do that ok? Isn't that what its for?

"For your reference, the BN4001 is positioned as a UPS to protect networking equipment, not to be network manageable.

Because it is intended to protect networking equipment (ie modem, router, etc. vs a PC), we do not include a cable to connect to a PC or the software to monitor from a PC"
In an outage, the UPS is there to allow you enough time to gracefully close off your machine. They're saying that it's not there to continue working not protect the network (only those machines that are attached to it versus the cable line running through your walls to the internet provider). Your power cables into the UPS will pull power from the UPS at a pretty strong rate, so...use the time that you've got to gracefully close out work, save files, and power down.

How long does the battery last once the power goes out?

depends upon the load your putting on it. the easy math would be to look at the amperage that your combined machines require (you can look that up on the internet for estimates or by looking at the actual manuals)...then, divide the total / full capacity of the UPS by the number you get when you add all of those devices together. This gives you a rate that you're bleeding the stored energy by per minute. (assuming that the load per device is listed by the minute versus hour)
It's a rough math but gets a ball park answer...

Do I need an UPS?

I have a flat panel tv and soundbar plugged into an outlet that, when the air conditioner turns on, I get a momentary blip on the screen. Will a ups prevent this or what do I need?
Yes...momentarily blips may (and likely do) allow for 'dirty' power to come through. High end electronics are sensitive to the quality of electricity they get. A UPS not only provides for the constant supply of electricity, but acts as a very strong buffer between dirty power and your electronics.

internal hard drive for gateway pentium 4 desk top computer

I'm looking to buy internal hard drive for gateway pentium 4 desk top computer
I'm assuming your rig is a SATA given that it's P4. Size is relatively cheap when coming to hard drives, but you'll have to look at how your OS uses it first. Some OS doesn't really use the larger hard drives well, so it doesn't pay to go big but rather go many.
