Worked perfectly out of the box. I use this SATA docking station to hold two drives: a 1 TB drive for periodically cloning my main HDD and a small 40 GB "scratch pad" drive for moving large blocks of files.

What's great about it: Large display, i3 processor, 6GB RAM, 500 GB HD, DVD and Web cam
What's not so great: Discontinued product; very poor sound quality with built-in speakers.
Bought two for friends while they were on sale for about $150 off list price. One had a dead battery, but Toshiba replaced it within two days. Very hard to find a laptop with all of these features for the price. Came with Windows 8, but upgraded to Windows 8.1 without any problems.
This product is... Big screen size, poor sound quality, easy to set up

The usable length of a Toslink (optical fiber) connection will depend on the intensity of the light source and the quality of the plastic fiber; typically the length of the cable should not exceed 10 meters (33 feet) which meets your requirement. Will this work for older desktop drives AND newer laptop drives?
I have an old Gateway desktop that the power unit went out on. I also have an HP desktop and Compaq laptop. I want to make sure this product will work with the desktop drive and two laptop drives (obviously, not at the same time).
