I've been using the Fitbit Zip for over a month. It's a great way to track your basic activity level and balance your calorie intake according to that activity level.
There are some features of the other models I might like to use and the ability to have a rechargeable battery would be great.
I've been pleased with the device but next time would get the more advanced model.
I would recommend this to a friend!

does it measure stair climbing?

is stair climbing measured by fitbit zip?
Only as steps taken. It will not increase the calorie burn. There is a Fitbit model that will, I believe it is the Charge.

Does it work when I use a treadmill - I have heard that it does not?

Yes, I have had great success counting steps on my treadmill.

Will it calculate calories burned while doing Zumba

It will only calculate your activity as walking calories burned.
