The biggest flaw on this product is the clasp. I spent 2 days looking for my watch before I found it in my laundry basket... it had fallen off. A more traditional watch closure would be more practical for a watch that is not only expensive but containing personal texts and emails.
The second biggest flaw is the buggy reboot mode. (Google my gear fit keeps rebooting) this happened to me and it took me holding the button down for around 5 minutes for it to stop cycling. I assume this could be fixed by a update so not detrimental like the faulty band issue. Personally if I had to choose again I would not choose the gear fit.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Does Gear Fit have the capability to count calories?

I see it will show calories burned, but what about calorie intake?
The preprogrammed software will not count your calories. They have multiple apps available to install to your gear fit... I don't know if any of those have the capability but I haven't seen it myself.
