I have a 2 TB WD Network Hard Drive (NAS) and have a lot of movies stored on it in MPEG-4 format. The ROKU 3 provides the method to watch these on my TV without having a computer hooked up to it. Easy setup & easy to access.
I would recommend this to a friend!

No voice recognition. Search info is inputed via an on-screen keyboard.

DOES ROKU 3 GET THE LOCAL CHANNELL? ... LIKE CBS, ABC, NBC etc.
No. You still need an antena to pick up local broadcasts. Roku does have ABC, CBS, NBC & Fox, but they are repeats of shows that were already shown on TV or Cable.

whats a good dvd to ipod converter?

i need to convert my dvds to mp4 for my ipo touch.
123 Copy DVD is the program I use. I have the "Platinum" version because it also hadles Blu-Ray. If that's not important, the "Gold" version will do. Many output formats are available, including Apple's H.264, MPEG-4.

Will I need an HDMI cable with the Roku 3?
Yes. The unit sits below my TV and I used a 6' HDMI cable.
