What's great about it: Size, function, sturdiness
What's not so great: Difficult to get screws in due to working in a confined space
We put this on a small TV in the kitchen under a cabinet and over the counter a few inches from the refrigerator. It functions beautifully and allows us to pull the TV away from the wall enough to attach other electronics if desired. It was a bit challenging to get the screws into the TV due to the tight location but it was do-able. In most cases insulation would have been easy.
I would recommend this to a friend!

what's the depth of the mount when flush to the wall?

The back plate is about 2" from the wall plus the depth of the TV.
