Saw this product near near the checkout line, which was moving very quickly. Impulse Purchase for Wife. Seen the Movie many times, bought the Blue-Ray of the Movie. Keep the USB Drive in the package on the shelf of Disney Stuff. Always gets a nice comment from house guests. Might Stay Mint In package for many years. I myself now use USB 3.0 drives for the speed advantage in data transfers.

Bought 2 more of these SSD Drives for less than $100. each. I now own 4 of them. They are Very Fast. compared to spinning drives, even 10k and 15k performance drives. I reloaded OS, updates and software to them. No surprise that both of the computers Windows Experience Hard Drive Score jumped by 1.5 points on both machines with onboard SATA 3.0. The SSD's 240 gig Smaller Size makes backing up to another hard drive go quickly, and makes me keep my computer housekeeping up to date. Friends are amazed at how fast my PC's boot up and respond to tasks. Readers, a hundred dollars isn't a big pile of money like it used to be... and the results on your PC will be nothing short of Amazing. All my Desktops Boot off of SSD Drives. Some even boot Raid 0 for even more performance. Very Happy with the product and the price I didn't pay. BTW: Just a few years ago I spent over $150 each for 64 Gig SATA 2.0 SSD drives. Cost per Gig has dropped by 75%, now that's progress, and I think that it is Cool, too.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Value, Speed, Cost per TB of Storage Space
What's not so great: Takes a long time to fill up at 3TB per min
For PC's, you need to be using a newer OS, Vista, Win 7 or Win 8. I made the mistake of trying to use it with an XP machine without native USB3.0 and the machine didn't see it or the data I had on it....MY BAD!. I have purchased 5 of these Western Digital 3 TB USB 3.0 External drives over the last 2+ years for data backup. I don't use the included software, so I won't comment on it other than I delete it from the drive to free up some more space. First off, It's quiet. The computers around it are always louder than the working drives. Second, the speed of data transfers using USB 3.0. It's over double the speed of USB 2.0, and almost as fast as Sata 2.0 speeds, close to 3 TB a minute. But if you have lots of data, it will still take you hours not minutes to copy or move lots of files to it. I was surprised to find that if you can also plug in a USB 2.0 cable to it and it powers up and works, however data transfers are not as fast, less than half of USB 3.0, about 1.2 TB per min. But hey....it works. I've bought spare USB 3.0 cables to have on hand. The 3 TB worth of space is a great value, costing less than $50 dollars US per TB for external hard drive storage that's portable. I put them on a laptop fan base to help with cooling. A cool drive is a happy drive... Having drives plugged into a UPS backup power solution when operating is almost a necessity for good data storage too.
This product has... Reliable, Fast, Attractive design/portable, Quiet, Large capacity/good size
About me... Budget Conscious, Work with large multimedia files, Gamer, Business Professional, pc jedi

Is there an external hard drive compatible with a mid 2007 Mac with OS 10.5.8?

I am having issues with using an outdated OS plus my disk space is almost full. I need to back up via time machine using an external drive so I can install snow leopard, to upgrade to an even better OS and so on. The problem is I can't seem to find an external drive that is compatible with my OS 10.5.8. Any suggestions?
My experience is with Snow Leopard on a Intel i7-860 Hackintosh. I believe almost any USB 2.0 or fire wire external hard drive might work. Buying one pre-formatted for Mac is the easiest way. Otherwise you will have to format it for Mac use first, eg: Mac OS Extended format. If your having trouble formatting the external drive, you might need to have a friend with a Mac format it for you first. I Always Recommend that you have your equipment, Mac and External Hard Drive, plugged into a UPS Backup Power Supply to protect the process from power issues. If you can, clone your current drive. Then test it to see if it Your Mac boots up with the external HD. Only then use Snow Leopard to reformat your internal drive for a fresh & clean install of Snow Leopard on your Mac. Faster, Happier Mac's for all

what is the output voltage on the power supply for wd my book essential 3.0 tb

12v dc @ 1500mA. Most external units use the save voltage, just different power adapters and plug in tips. I've successfully used the WD, Toshiba and Seagate Power Supplies to operate my external drives.
