This is a solid case that doesn't add a lot of weight to the tablet. It is a bear to figure out how to put on. Never having had an Otterbox before I had to call the customer help line to figure it out. This case to me seemed different than the few videos I found so they weren't helpful. It is simple to get on and off if a bit of a patience is involved.This is a weather resistant case, not a weather proof one. If you have it in your hand while running through a gentle rain you should be okay. If you drop it into the pool not so much.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I bought this tablet because I was wanting to play some of the games that friends were playing on their iOS/Android devices. Having a Blackberry phone limited the Android apps I could run. Some worked some didn't. I didn't want to upgrade my phone since buying the tablet was cheaper than an upgrade, that's the route I took. It is WiFi/Bluetooth capable only so that could be a downside to some. There is no WiFi where I work so I tethered the tablet to my phone(Bluetooth feature) and use its data plan to access the internet through the tablet. It works great like this and I have internet access anywhere I have a phone signal. Tethering does drain the phone battery rather quickly so that should be a consideration. I can always get through a 9 hour day at work and still have 30% battery life on my phone and around 70% on the tablet. It uses the micro USB power cord, same as my phone, which is convenient. I would have liked the ability to switch out batteries for fresh, but haven't really needed to.
The camera on this device isn't very good. The images I've taken with it have been grainy at best. I didn't buy it for that so it is not a big deal to me. But could be a consideration to some.
All in all I consider this a great tablet for the money. Wally had it regular price(white version only) at a lower price and Best Buy matched it. Savings I used to get an Otter Box case that I wouldn't have spent that much on otherwise. So Best buy made out with more. Than if I had just gotten the tablet.

is the samsung 7" galaxy tab 3 3g or 4g?
Neither. This device is not cellular capable on it's own. I use my phone's bluetooth tethering feature to connect to the internet with the tablet.

Out of the box, is only 4.69 gb of the listed 8 gb capacity normal?
This is the space available when I turned it on. I realize that OS and apps take up some space but this seems like a lot.
To be honest I didn't pay that close attention when I got it. It does have a micro SD slot built in. I believe it can handle up to 32 or 64 GB SD cards.

What email services are compatible with this Samsung? This is my first tablet and I am having a hard time deciding which one to buy.
Being an Android device which is a Google product. It has built in access to GMail. As long as you have access to WiFi, through this tablet you can access the internet, and there for any other email account.
