I've owned this computer for about a month and so far have been pleased with its performance. Initially planned on adding more RAM to the unit but the standard 8gb of ddr4 has been fine for my usage. I am not a gamer nor do I do video editing so I might not be as demanding as others regarding RAM or the video card. I have streamed netflix without problems and the boot up is substantially faster than my older pentium running Vista which this has replaced. I think it surely has more horsepower than I've used doing routine web searching, you tube and other streaming video, and finance programs. I did install a 4gb second HDD that I had purchased for my old unit but decided not to bother upgrading. Won't run out of storage anytime soon...
I really like the Bluetooth audio capability and built in wifi which are new features from my previous desktop.
Only wish is that there were more USB ports - only 6, 4 of which are located in back
I like the angle of the 2 forward facing USB 3.0 ports but you need to have extra height clearance.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Pros - price, ability to cast personal content of device on large screen. Works well from chrome pc browser
Cons - difficult to switch out of chromecast and back to cable mode, apps can be glitchy and need some work, locks up and needs to be reset occasionally.
Would not suggest for the less tech savvy, other choices such as Roku 3 quicker, more user friendly and has remote. but triple the price. You do get what you pay for and it should be a one time purchase. Portability is great and I have not compared the Roku streaming stick which would be closer but still greater in price. No experience with Amazon Fire or Apple TV

What's great about it: Easy install, excellent performance, get the most out of your megabits
Happy to say that Install was simple, works fine with Time Warner Cable, and wifi has a reasonable range. Able to stream Netflix and use Airave access point to connect to Sprint phone service using relatively low speed (low cost) internet service. I credit the modem for maximizing the bandwidth usage - works as well as I would have hoped.
This product has... Fast connection, Secure connection, Easy to set up, Reliable connection, Easily expanded
About me... Budget Conscious, Heavy media streamer, tech able but no guru
I would recommend this to a friend!
I use it in...:Small home

would i put my modem ,where the wire comes in the house

would the best spot for your modem be at the beginning ,where the wire comes in the house
I would put it in a location where the wifi signal will reach the rooms you need it to. If you have a large house and put it too far from the devices that use wifi the signal strength will decrease. For streaming this can become an issue of frequent buffering and the like.

New to all this...

Our cable co. deleted a channel I love to watch. Claims they were renegotiating so they took it off.
Out of all the useless channels, they took the one sports channel I enjoyed.
Can this media player help? If so, what do I need to do.
I have an I pad and a Google acct. looks like I need an Attena for local channels, unless I can rig my I pad to our flat screen? Hair color not a factor, I'm a novice!
Thanks!
I am not an expert in the use of this device and I don't know exactly what you are trying to achieve. If you want pay channels like Netflix it will work if you have an adequate internet speed and connection. There are many free channels but more premium content may cost you for "a la carte" channels like the soon to be available stand alone HBO Go. As I said in my review - I would recommend this device for the more tech savvy individual who can make things work by reading a forum and using the info to change router settings, download apps and the like. It may or may not work out of the box for you depending on your router settings. If this sounds like a foreign language I'd suggest you get something else. That said if you like a challenge and have a reasonably decent frustration tolerance it's only about $30 as a one time cost which is like one or two months of basic cable so what the heck. If you can spend more I find the Roku 3 quicker, more reliable and more user friendly esp for the novice

can i turn off the wireless capability of the modem and use a separate wireless router?

I believe you can turn off the wifi and I see no reason why you couldn't use a separate wifi router, I just don't know why you would. Don't know if you need to turn off the wifi to connect another router. There are less expensive cable modems that do not have wifi capability that would serve your purpose just as well for less $.
