I have the AppleTV, which I really like. I got the Roku box because it has an XM radio app. However, I found that other things especially Pandora and Netflix work very well on the Roku. I also like being able to tap into the Amazon universe. The machine is quick, simple to operate, and does what it promises.

What's great about it: Sound quality, clean power, convenient source switching
What's not so great: No digital sources to zone 2; no included wi-fi.
This unit replaced a 20-year-old Sony receiver, which only offered Dolby Pro-Logic surround. I based the purchase decision mostly on a very positive review in Sound and Vision. This Yamaha decodes virtually all the current formats. The sound is ultra clean. I especially like the capability to tune my speakers to the listening room with the included microphone and software. It is also nice to be able to switch audio and video so easily with the Yamaha remote, which has codes for all my components, including Apple TV. It would have been a bit better if the wi-fi adapter were built in, but the Apple TV streams just fine.
This product has... Plenty of power for all my needs, Interfaces well with TV, Easy to use controls
About me... Audiophile

using a streaming player without a wireless router

Even though I use Time Warner Internet, I don't want to use a wireless router in my house. Is there any device, other than my computer, I can run my cable line to, then hook up to my TV, so I can watch Hulu Plus and Netflix? If not, please let me know the easiest way to hook all of it up.
You can use the Roku 3 without a wireless router. It has an ethernet jack so that you can plug it directly into your Internet line from your cable modem.
