Can I connect the sound bar to the Directv cable box to get sound from the TV?

I do not want to run a wire up the wall to the TV. My tv is mounted on the wall. I want to know is it possible to run an audio connection to the Directv cable box?
If your Direct TV box has a optical out then you can use this to connect directly to the soundbar
