battery life?

Does the battery in this tablet last longer after charging than the first kindle fire tablet? I need to charge the old tablet up almost every day. I primarily use it to surf the internet.

We pretty much have to charge our Kindle every day. Although I wouldn't say it uses up 100% of the battery life each day, but we still plug it up for the night. I have never understood why everyone doesn't do that with their phones/tablets anyway. If you are asleep you aren't using them so they might as well be charging!

hook up requirements?

I know smart phones, etc. require contracts or hook ups with verizon, AT&T, etc. Is there any requirement with this new Kinclle Fire? My last one did not and I can go on line shopping, e-mail, etc.

No cellular connection required, but must have access to Wifi.
