What about "local" TV programming
Does this allow access to local tv stations? for news and weather etc.?
Roku is exclusively an Internet-based solution. If you want over-the-air free local channels, you will need to get a digital antenna. In theory, your local stations may broadcast both over-the-air and over-the-Internet at the same time but there is an additional hurdle. The local station would also need to have worked with Roku to create a Roku channel. Finally don't expect the local station to add all their content to the Roku channel. Typically, I find about 3 clips per news broadcast.
The national CBS and NBC news is a little better in that they do have a larger selection of video clips. FOX News is also available but again, the selection is limited.
International news seems to be fairly well covered by a couple other Roku channels.
Weather fairs a little better. Weather Nations does a really good job of covering the entire nation and still provides a good deal of detail on local weather.
