What's great about it: Optional Keyboard
What's not so great: Won't download movies
I bought this so I could download movies and watch them on my weekly 2 hr train trip. Amtrak Wi-Fi is not broad enough so I can stream movies. I tried downloading using the Xbox app included with the Surface but it would not download using my satellite connection. I took it to my other house and it would not download using my cable modem either so I feel like I wasted my money since it won't do what I bought it to do. I paid for 2 movie downloads that timed out before I could download them.. Also, since the Xbox app doesn't give you the option to switch to steaming when you can't get movies to download I never got to see the movies I paid for.
I also bought it thinking I could use a DirecTV app to watch streamed shows like I can on my Kindle. But THERE IS NO DIRECTV APP for the surface. The Best Buy salesman said there was a DirecTV app but I shouldn't blame him since I should have checked this out before I bought it.
It works fine for all the things I don't really care about
This product is... Good sound quality, Sharp graphics, Great screen size

Can movies be dowmloaded to the Microsoft Surface 2 , and if so, how?

No I could not download movies. I could only stream movies.
