I am an owner of a Nikon DSLR, it is an older version as I have had it for over 10 years. I also have a Fuji point and shoot for a few years. Now I have added the Cannon PowerShot G16. I consider myself an amateur when it come to photography as I have belonged to a camera club and am still learning about photography. So onto the review:
Pros: Better than a basic point & shoot shutter speed, Macro shooting, eye viewfinder and screen viewfinder, dial exposure control on camera, multiple shooting modes, hot shoe for mountable flash, wifi connectivity, size.
Cons: battery life, no physical manual (its online, which is also a pro), zoom distance.
I am still learning about the features of the camera but so far love the step up from the basic point and shoot. I love, love, love that there is a dial on the camera body for exposure! I tend to shoot in program mode a lot, and having this at the fingertips is a huge plus for me. I can keep the object in view while changing the exposure, I don't like having to go into menus to find something to change on the fly! I do a lot of close up photography and am pleased with the results. The battery life is my only disappointment so far, I bought a spare when I bought the camera and am glad I did. The batteries are inexpensive and before I go on vacation will probably buy another. I wish the camera had a longer zoom but I suppose I have my DSLR for that.
I would highly recommend this camera as an advanced point and shoot for those that have worked with DSLRs and want the advance features that this camera provides. I did upload 2 photos; 1-amusement park ride of the spinning ride, I was impressed that the camera caught the faces with no blurring as I could not detect when my family would be in view. I just kept shooting and hoping for the best, 2-a peony close up of the center that was shot in program mode so that I could adjust the exposure meter so that the flower highlights would not be blown out. Like I said earlier I am pleased with the camera. It is a little bigger than the average point and shoots out there, but definitely manageable compared to the heavy DSLR that I also have. It is definitely a keeper!

Does this camera come with an optical viewfinder?
Yes it does have the optical viewfinder! great for those really bright days when you can't see the screen viewfinder.
