I originally bought this product because we use the same at work and knew how reliable they were. They one is no different. It takes both laptop and desktop hard drives. It's great!

I HAVE A HARD DRIVE I PULLED OUT OF MY SONY PC, I WANT TO TRANSFER FILES ON IT TO MY NEW MAC COMPUTER, WILL THIS WORK? THANK YOU!

In short, yes. It should work copying data from a NTFS formatted hard drive to the Mac. Though, to go the other way around: Writing data from the Mac to your external hard drive probably won't work without an external program.
