What's great about it: Amazing PQ -AND- SQ!
What's not so great: Pricey. Best Buy's delivery service!
After seeing these fully calibrated in customer's homes, I decided this was the TV I was going to get for my new home. It was a choice between this and the ZT60. Man, I am glad I chose this one!
The picture is just flat out amazing! There is no other way to put it. The speakers on the TV sound awesome! Granted, they aren't as good as my Klipsch, but for TV speakers, there aren't any better!
I have never liked 3D and always thought of it as a gimmick. I still feel it is a gimmick, but the 3D on this TV is truly first rate. This is about the only TV I've been able to watch 3D on for more than 10 minutes. The picture is bright and clear - and with the 4k panel delivering 1080p to each eye - no 1080p set can even touch it!
The DLNA integration is very well done. I have the ARC turned on with my AVR so all I have to do when I want to listen to a quick song is hit Play To on my Win7 box and everything switches by itself, plays what I requested, and then goes back to the way everything was prior.
I can go on for hours about how great this TV is, but the more I do, the more of a Sony fanboy I would seem to be! LOL!
But I do need to mention that Best Buy wasn't so great when it came to the delivery. I was supposed to be contacted the day before delivery to let me know what time to expect them out here. I finally called them around 7pm to get an update. They gave me the information about the delivery time - 11a to 1p. I receive a call from Best Buy around 10pm to finally advise me of my delivery time.
Day of delivery arrives - 11a nothing. 12p, nothing. 1p, nothing. 2p nothing - I then called to find out where my TV was and was told that they would call the driver and find out. I was put on hold and the next person that picked up inquired about my issue. I explained to him the situation and that someone put me on hold to contact the driver. He told me that they cannot do that and that the person that told me that transferred me to him to assist. After explaining to him very politely how upset I was about this, he said he would find out what was going on and call me back. 30 minutes later, he calls and said the driver was given an extra run to make this morning and because of that he was running behind. I mentioned it would have been VERY nice to have been notified of this. He said the driver should be there in the next 30 minutes.
The driver then showed up at the next 30 minute interval as promised. Now, the delivery I was promised was to unbox the set and set it on it's included stand, connect it to power and a source and verify that the TV was working and remove the box. They set the box down in the living room and said here you go and started to walk out the door. I reminded them of the agreement for delivery. They took the top off the box and connected it to power. They did not set it on it's included stand, and they did not connect it to a source. The turned it on and said enjoy and walked out.
I would have put this in the survey that my delivery complete E-mail said I would receive within 24 hours - except I never received the promised survey.
Needless to say, my next high dollar purchase will NOT be from Best Buy.

What's great about it: Wonderful sound quality
What's not so great: I don't have more of them
Granted, these aren't on par with the Heresy or THX-650 series of Klipsch speakers, they still offer GREAT sound for those on a budget. As with all speakers in the really good to awesome range, these did require a break-in period.
If I had the choice to make again, I would not hesitate to purchase these again.

HDMI 2.0 support

The Sony web site says that there will be a software update later this year to support HDMI 2.0 to accommodate 4K/60p.
However, is the HDMI decoder chip capable of that transfer rate at 4K resolution (about 18 Gbps)? Or will there be a reduction in quality to meet the 10 Gbps HDMI 1.4 chips can currently process (and that is enough for 4K/25p)?
Also, does the tv support HDCP 2.2 – or will it with the firmware update?
I am worried that content that will come out within the next year or two is not displayed without a hardware upgrade or sacrificing picture quality ...
If your HDMI4 port is separate from the HDMI1 and HDMI2 port, then Sony offers an upgrade board that gives HDCP2.2 capability to the TV. The sets with the HDMI4 port in the same location as HDMI 1 and 2 already have this upgrade.

Until the HDMI 2.0 software upgrade is ready, the HDMI inputs are limited to 30fps at 4k. It is my understanding that the decoder chip Sony uses in this TV is capable of 60fps at 4k and is currently held back by the HDMI 1.4 firmware currently in the set. They have shown demos of this TV running 4k at 60fps and said at those demos that it was a minor modification to get these sets to do this - but wouldn't say what that modification was. It seems that Sony was anticipating the HDMI 2.0 specification for some time now with this TV.

Speakers or no speakers

Is it worth the price to get the speakers? Or without speakers
The speakers aren't where the price difference is. The set without the speakers uses a different display panel that shows 3D using active vs. passive glasses. If this makes no difference to you, then the choice can be better made with the question do you have a full audio setup. If you don't, then you can't go wrong with the display that has speakers. They do sound great! If you do, then go with the TV without the speakers as it is slimmer. Ultimately, it's your choice. Either way, it's a great TV!
