I have had the speaker for a month now and absolutely love it. It is so small yet it has sound like any of the high end soundbars that you connect to your tv. It is amazing how much bass comes through the speaker, especially if you set it a couple inches from a wall or vertical surface. The sound is extremely clear. Exactly what you expect from Bose.

Is the mini really that much better then the color, or that much of a step down from soundlink III?

I tried both next to each other in the store. The sound is just a little better with the mini, especially the high frequency sounds like high note violin, symbols, piano, and such. The biggest difference is the size! the mini is about half the size of the color. that is the main reason I chose it.
