I had WiFi dead spots in my house. I tried using a repeater, but it would create a new SSID. Therefore, I would have to remember to change which WiFi signal to use on mobile devices based on where I was in the house. Google WiFi creates one mesh network and has intelligence built it to connect you to the best access point. I have had no more problems or dead spots. Setup is very easy as well.

Is it compatible with the Amazon Echo?

Yes. I use these with the Amazon Echo all the time. Once you set up your Wemo switch, say "Alexa, discover my devices." and you will be good to go.
