It appears that, with guidance from two sources (Best Buy and Comcast), I selected the right wi-fi router for me. It is in the basement and reliably powers my laptop one floor above. Instructions for set-up were good and the system was up and running in a timely manner.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Wireless Comcast Xfinity Modem and Router combined

I have a Comcast wireless modem with router inside, and ever since they put me on wireless, my service to the lower level of my house has been horrible (the modem/router is in the far room upstairs). Can I connect this when there's already a router inside of the wireless modem that I'm using? Would it be better to insist that they put me back on a wired modem and then use this router with that?
In the process of hooking up this Netgear router, I was on the phone with Comcast so the tech there could de-activate the Wi-Fi- portion of the Comcast Xfinity Wi-Fi modem. So that Wi-Fi light is no longer lit up. I didn't want two Wi-Fi sources competing or interfering with each other. So far, so good: the netgear router is in the basement and I use my laptop on the first floor just fine. Hope this helps.
