I read up on this refrigerator on several sites prior to my purchase. I was mostly concerned about the smaller capacity due to counter depth size. Turns out that isn't an issue. My previous refrigerator was 25.5 CF and this unit is actually seems larger because it has more configuration options! Thrilled with its efficiency. Only downside is the water dispenser - angled toward the left rear of the dispenser area. Once I got used to it, it was fine.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Does the 22.5 Cu. Ft measurement take into account the lost space due to the ice maker and thru-the door apparatus?

It reduces some of the space for condiments in that door in that area. There is plenty of space elsewhere though.
