I would definitely recommend VIZIO - 5.1-Channel Soundbar System with 6" Wireless Subwoofer if you are looking for excellent crisp sound and deep bass. My cable provider does not broadcast in 5.1 but when I connected my phone to the soundbar via Bluetooth, I could hear the full surround sound with the satellite speakers. The bass was booming like I was in a club, seriously. I am no sound guru, but I can definitely recognize great sound when I hear it. This system has great sound trust me.
I would recommend this to a friend!

can I connect my CD player to this system

Can any CD player be hooked up to this system or does it require a certain type? If it does require a certain type, can someone please tell me what type I need?

It can be done with an auxiliary cable (two male plug). One end connects into the phone jack on the CD player and the other end goes into the 3.5mm jack in the soundbar.

Hdmi or optical

What is better sound quality hdmi or optical wire on vizio sound bar
I think either is okay as they are both digital. However, to save an HDMI port on your TV, I would suggest using the optical. I use the optical and it sounds great!

How long are the wires that connect the two rear speakers to the SUBWOOFER?

I would say somewhere on the order of 10-15'
