My previous phones included a Droid X, and a Nexus 4. When I was looking to upgrade, I searched for a Verizon phone with 4G capabilities, one with more features than the usual prepaid phones (since I planned on using it with a prepaid plan,) but probably a little older, so as to not be so expensive as to break the bank (meaning "no" to the Nexus 6, which I otherwise would have snatched up, despite the ridiculously-large screen.)
The Droid Mini fit the criteria, but I was a bit concerned. I hate having a phone with no SD card slot, even though I honestly never swapped my card out that much on prior phones. And the screen was a bit smaller than I was used to. Still, since it was slightly cheaper than the LG G2, I went for it. After a week of hassle (thanks, shall-remain-unnamed service provider!) I finally got it activated and started to use it.
And all I can say is I'm glad I finally moved up. Reception and coverage so far is great, although I haven't been that far out of town yet. I expect it'll remain good though. And the screen really isn't bad; the high resolution makes it more than adequate. The Verizon bloatware is a little annoying (including my inability to find a way to activate the hotspot feature without rooting it,) but some of the other features are very nice. Google Now is great, the battery life is impressive considering how much use I'm squeezing out of it, and the processor and RAM are enough that apps and regular use are pretty snappy (I'll probably never get a phone with less than 2GB of RAM again!) I'm a little worried about filling the 16GB of storage at some point, but I do have more storage options today, so I can live with it--and honestly, I might never even notice.
All in all, I'm very pleased with the product. I occasionally still find myself thinking I should have shelled out a bit more for the G2's larger screen (which, take note, also would have saved me some activation hassle by not having to get a cursedly-small nano SIM instead of the just-right Micro SIM,) but this was still a great value, and a purchase I can easily recommend to others.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Does the phone support USB OTG?

Can you transfer data from a USB thumb drive?
Can you connect a USB keyboard and mouse?
Yes, it supports flash drives via USB OTG, according to Google.

Not sure about the keyboard and mouse, but if those are standard USB OTG offerings, I can't see why not.

why is this phone not available in any stores?

Why are they advertising a product that is not available for pickup at any store in the US?
I can only speculate that, as usual, it's about the money.

U.S. cellphone service providers seem to only grudgingly offer prepaid service. The phones that usually go with these services are low-end offerings... the providers apparently want to save the best phones for their locked-in contract service. And, they don't seem to want you to know about or have access to slightly-older but still-excellent phones that are also within reach of being purchased outright.

Best Buy isn't a cellphone service provider, but they do work with them. They put on display the standard prepaid phone options, and then have limited space for showing off the rest of the phones. So if the non-prepaid phones Verizon is pushing are the high-end, $600+ phones, instead of the numerous $200-$300 older models, well, that's what Best Buy will put on the floor.

Thankfully, we have the internet, where floor space isn't a concern, so Best Buy is able to offer the *exact* phone you want, provided you're willing to wait a little for shipment.
