I bought this with my Nikon 50mm 1.8 AF-S. It worked great in giving me very sharp clear images. Great protection for a great lens.

I bought this lens to take on vacation to a lake. This lens was awesome in taking sharp clear up close shots as well as landscape shot of the lake. Amazing lens for an extremely reasonable price.

Have a D5000 and want to upgrade to a good photography lens. Take lots of senior photo shoots and family portraits. What is a good starter upgrade? Something not too expensive, but get me some clear crisper shots!
Both the Nikon 35mm 1.8 AF-S G and 50mm 1.8 AF-S G are excellent for the needs you stated without breaking the bank.

Yes it works in the DX format and has the built in auto focus motor.

Is this lens better for family portrait indoor and outdoor, compared with 35 mm lens ?

I am just thinking of buying another lens, but can't decide which lens, whether the 50 mm f 1.8 G or the 35 mm f 1.8 for my Nikon D3200 which I bought last year.
I will need it for family portraits indoor and outdoor.

I shoot with a similar Nikon D5200. The 50mm 1.8 was great for both portrait and landscapes on my last vacation. I would however like to purchase the 35mm 1.8 for some wider shots. I did find on my trip that a few times I did need to back up slightly further then I'd like to fit the shot. Overall I am extremely happy with the 50mm I'd just like to add both the 35mm 1.8 as well as the 85mm 1.8 to my equipment.
