Very useful for when I'm traveling and want my kindle to be charged in case I stop somewhere to rest and want to read. Not really necessary for short trips as the kindle holds a charge for several days to two weeks I believed. Still worth getting so your kindle can charge while traveling.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I love this thing! I don't even want to read paperback books anymore!:) Plus the Amazon store has a huge selection of books. The 3G is nice if I'm away from wi-fi and want to download a new book. I got a good deal, not sure if I would pay full price for the 3G but it's a nice addition. I didn't care about a tablet, just wanted a reader and thing is the best at that! Great product;)

are there any charges if you use the 3G?

Understand there are no monthly charges or committments, but does this mean the 3G is free or do you pay for what5 you use?
I believe this is completely free. It worked out of the box for me, instantly connecting to the 3G network in my area.
