The tablet seems to work ok except that the battery runs out quickly. I am getting less than two days idle time out of it. My ipad version 1 had a clearer screen and 3x the battery life so I'm a bit disappointed in my first Android O/S device.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I found this cover to be unstable and attracts dirt. The magnets do not hold well. I wouldn't suggest it as its not a very secure holder.

What's great about it: Seems durable and has several imputs
What's not so great: Can make a lot of noice and mouse function
Bought this as a backup to my laptop. Seems to work fine. Only issues are that it sometimes gets loud (rattles) and the mouse is sticky. I've swapped out mice I know that work and changed the settings but nothing works.

Is it a backlight keyboard?

It's hard to read the printing on they keyboard, almost like it should be backlit. It isn't obvious if it does.
Its not backlit - just cheap lettering. I can't read it well either.
