which is being operated via a signal that is NOT infrared, so that I can have it out of sight in a wood cabinet. It has the requisite features I'd expect, but when I compare its functionality to that of an iPhone or an iPad, $500 seems to be a bit pricey. I'm by no means an audiophile, but I have bought quite a few systems over the years, and I cannot understand why receivers continue to be relatively expensive. In many respects, it's a high-end USB port or router.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Wireless Mic

Can a wireless mic be hooked up to this amplifier? If yes, how is the best way to accomplish that?
You can probably buy a kit to accomplish this. I know such kits exist for subwoofers.

Had a Sony DAV-HDX265 took a lightning hit. Will this unit plus a blue ray player work with my Sony speakers already wired in the walls?

The Sony system we had worked and sounded great. My speakers are hard wired in the walls and would like to still use them . Like having all Sony so remotes are similar. Want to add a Blue Ray player.
I bought this until to replace a home theater unit that did not have wireless capability, and I connected it to the same speaker wires as before. My speakers are all hard-wired in the walls and ceiling and all of the connections worked exactly as expected. This unit also has a neat App called TV SideView that allows you to operate it with an iPhone. You can add a Blue-Ray player to this. Just make sure it can be operated wirelessly to cut down on how many remotes you need.

laptop audio

i have an older laptop that im hooking to an lg flatscreen thru the pc input on tv, but how do i hookup audio from laptop to this reciever. i know it has to come from earphones output on laptop and i have a converter cable from phone jack to RCA but not sure what input to use
If you have a MacBook and an Apple TV, you can use AirPlay to do this very easily. If you have a Windows laptop, I don't have anything to offer.

Connecting a CD player

Can I use my Philips CD player with this receiver? Can I use my record player with it?
You should be able to connect a CD player and/or a turntable if they each have standard red-and-white plug-in connector cables.
