A good washer, but beware

The washer it is replacing was a 10 year old Bosch Axxis. I think the only choices for a machine that would fit our space was either an LG or Sears as most machines are a little deeper. I like this one a lot more than my Bosch as is does much bigger loads. Even if I could fit a larger machine, this drum seems so big I don't think I would need one. I also like the cycles that introduce steam for extra cleaning or sterilization. The preselected washes are very customizable with adjustments for temperature, how dirty the clothes are, how much to spin them at the end of the wash, extra rinse etc. It also has a little magnet that keeps the door open just a little to let air in when you aren't washing to help it dry out so you don't get mold in the door gasket. I pretty much like everything about this washer EXCEPT when it lets water in when it fills, it does so in many spurts instead of just filling it up all at once. I guess we have too high a water pressure at our house, so we experience a "water hammer" a banging of the pipes, every time it goes on and off again. This can happen every few seconds for a minute or more (what seems like an eternity) while it is filling as opposed to just one on and off cycle like machines I am used to. I'm afraid if we don't get a water hammer arrester we will have a broken pipe. Other than that, it seems like a very good machine, but only time will tell how reliable it is.

smaller machines for one-person household
I am looking for smaller sized, front loading washer and dryer. They could be stackables or side by side. Any recommendations?
Bosch makes some very small ones, but LG makes some smaller than most out there and is probably cheaper and not too much bigger than the Bosch. But it's big enough if you want to do a large load which the Bosch was incapable of.
