What's great about it: Proved to be more reliable than Western Digital in my custom boxes
What's not so great: NP
I had been using WD drives for the first 10yrs of my business. Then the bottom fell out for WD Failed in less than 2 yrs. Now my money is on Seagate.
I would recommend this to a friend!

will the Seagate Barracuda 500 GB internal hard drive work with windows 8?

Yes, but if you are using 64bit software, I would get a larger drive. 1TB and at least 32mb of cache. It is not much more.
