Upgraded from an old Windows 7 system. Not a big fan that the system doesn’t support dual monitors but seems to be reasonably fast.

I also own the Apple TV device and the Roku is better in some ways. You can play games and it also can act a a cable box if you have Time Warner Cable.

What's great about it: Dual Channel
What's not so great: Installation
Calling customer service for assistance with installation took several phone calls and three days. I kept getting transferred and cut off because the device is new and I needed assistance from the dreaded Level 2 Technician.
I bought this device to take full advantage of my TWC RR service. The jury is still out on whether it was worth 200 bucks. When I finally got everything working right WIFI was downloading at 25 Mbs when it was lucky to reach 12 before. When the service fluctuates TWC blames the router and Linksys says it is TWC.
This product has... Unreliable connection, Fast connection, Dual band, slow connection, Difficult setup
About me... Budget Conscious, Heavy media streamer, Internet phone user, Technology guru, Video chatter

Is the encryption software Mac compatible?
Yes but if you want the Mac and PC both to have the ability to read and write to the drive you will have to reformat it on the Mac and configure it.

Will this device work from a smart phone's hotspot or only from a router?

Purchased a Samsung smart TV, but it won't connect to the internet from a smart phone hotspot, only a router. Will Roku work?
Yes, any connect will do.
