Should I purchase an HDMI cable even though Roku 1 comes with the AV cable?

Will using the HDMI cable improve the streaming quality or not?
The salesman told us we had to purchase the HDMI cable because we have an older tv

Does Roku1 remote comes w headphone jack?

No it does not.

Can a router be used for WiFi and Netflix, or we need to seperate gagdets.

We will get connected to WiFi through Xplornet and they tell us we will need a router. Since we have no clue what to get and we will want Net Flix eventually, do we need a specific router, or a router and a streaming player like Roku.
We have a router with our WiFi anyways so our Roku works perfectly fine.

connections

Do I need to connect it to a laptop or only plug into my older tv? Looks like it when I read the answers above!? Sorta confused??
We were able to connect directly to our older tv but had to also purchase some type of adapter. The salesman helped in that.
