I have a Toshiba MJA2160BH laptop hard drive that I need to replace.
I see other brands with larger gb storage, but there does'nt seem to be any identifying information as to whether Im getting the same style or physical size that would fit.
For instance I see a Baracuda 1TB hard drive on line here SKU 8490625 for $139. would this fit my laptop

To figure out whether it will fit, check the height of the device, if it's 5.75 then it's gonna be a 3.5 inch form fact connector and not fit in a laptop, A .5 inch one is gonna to however be the 2.5 inch form factor connector which is for laptops. Unfortunately best buy does not include connector form factor in their specs, but they usually just label them as desktop or laptop.

will this upgrade my dell xps400 to current windows? if not, what is available.
Not at all, if you're trying to get updates just use the windows update utility, if you're using an older version of windows (xp, vista, etc) and want to upgrade to a current version you'll need to purchase a windows CD for windows 7 or windows 8 (whichever you want), or have a flash drive and download it to your computer (this tells you how to do it: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media). If you do the latter you'll still need to purchase a license from microsoft.
