Not at all, if you're trying to get updates just use the windows update utility, if you're using an older version of windows (xp, vista, etc) and want to upgrade to a current version you'll need to purchase a windows CD for windows 7 or windows 8 (whichever you want), or have a flash drive and download it to your computer (this tells you how to do it: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media). If you do the latter you'll still need to purchase a license from microsoft.
