Bought for my son who doesn't have a handsfree vehicle; thought it might be the solution to using his phone while driving WITHOUT using his hands or taking his eyes off the road.
He opened it and tried to see if it would work for him, but quickly realized that it was way too much trouble with all the wires and what you have to connect to and bother with every time you got in the car. I returned the item to BB as it wasn't a solution for us.

What's great about it: The ability to watch your own TV Stations and recordings.
What's not so great: Requires high bandwidth upload speeds from originating location
I think this is a great product but be wary. We are in a rural area and only have access to DSL high speed internet. DSL upload speeds are not fast enough to give you great video. It tends to be choppy, blurry, and sometimes stops. The device allows to download 30 minutes of video so it will run smooth, but no more. That needs to be changed. If your bandwidth has 1MB upload speed or higher I think you'll love this product. If you are stuck with DSL at 384K-512K watch out; it's not as dreamy as advertised. Remember the ISP's advertise their download speed. That is not important in this application. Upload speed is what you need to be worried about.

Can I order and view an on-demand movie connected to a DirectTV receiver?
I plan to connect Sling to my home's DirectTV receiver box and view DirecTV at a weekend place. If I do that, will I be able to order DirecTV on-demand movies and watch them from the remote location?
I don't see why not. The way it works is that Slingbox actually turns on your DirectTV receiver at home and send its signal to you. So if you want to watch live tv or a recording or download a movie you should be able to do it. All it does is grab the signal that is normally sent to the TV from the receiver and send it to you over the internet wherever you are watching, so if you can do it at home you can do it away. I hope that makes sense.

If the cable box top is turned off at the main location in the US, will I still be able to access and turn it on remotely in Tunis?
If I understand your question the answer is yes. You actually have a virtual remote control that is part of the Slingbox setup software that will allow you to turn on your cable box just like you were sitting in your home. You turn on the power and presto the video is coming to you wherever you are. when you are done you turn it off and it'll turn off the cable box back in the US. I hope that answers your question.

How is the quality of the picture/sound?
It all depends on your upload speed where the SlingBox is located. If you have 1MB or faster upload speed I think the quality is just like seeing it on your TV at home, pretty close to full HD if not full HD. If your upload speed is less (say 500k or 384K) it gets choppy and blurry. Too much data for that speed, which is a typical DSL upload speed. Hope this helps.

Whoever logs into your id can see your slingbox. I don't know if two users at the same time can see it, but my daughter who is away at college logs in with our id and watches recordings all the time. I'm not sure if that answers your question or not.

Does the box use home internet data when watching the slingbox from another location?
I live in Alaska, and we don't have unlimited internet like there is in the Lower 48 states. If my husband is out of town for work, in the lower 48, and accesses the slingbox, of course he will be using the internet in his location. However, during the time that he is watching our DVR, would our data usage at home, where the slingbox is connected, go up as well?
I'm no expert on it, but since Slingbox has to be connected to the internet and the router has to be on in your house, YES, you would be using your internet data as it is sending video uploads to the internet and being received by your husband.
