I have been using Logitech harmony remotes for years and have owned many models over the years. As a user of the old style PC program to set up my remotes, I was very pleased how easy it was to use the new web based application or the android application to set up this remote. One of the great things was it took all of my activities and settings from my old style remote and seamlessly moved it to this remote (which you would expect - treating it as an "upgrade"#. My only disappointment is that I found the remote to be marginally useful and would suggest the ultimate over this. I also had a PS3 and had set it up with an old Logitech PS3 Harmony adapter #which worked great with my older harmony remotes# ... unfortunately, the harmony hub in this product replaces my old adapter, but the new hub doesn't work with my old remote #which I wanted to keep using# so I was forced to either use the less functional remote #if I wanted to use a remote# or use the tablet/smart phone app #which works great# - neither of which I wanted to do. I gave this to my son and he is happy with using the remote as it meets his needs and they have smartphones and also use the app and love this product.
I would recommend this to a friend!

can you use more than one remote

I want to use 4 remotes with the Harmony Smart Control on 4 different TV's all hooked to one cable box located in the basement.
I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. If the 4 remotes control the 4 different TVs then there should be no problem using the one harmony remote (although it's capability is somewhat limited) or the smartphone / tablet app to control each TV. You might have to get a bit creative in terms of defining what button(s) on the remote or app controls what TVs.

Can I use this to control lighting and open a door?

I have a German door that can be operated electronically. I want to be able to unlock my door and turn certain lights on from my Apple iPhone just before arriving home. Does this system do that and how does it work? What do you need to make it work?
It does work with multiple home automation systems. You would need to do some research on their website to see if your devices are supported.

Pod hook up.

Is a HDMI hook up on the TV required for the pod on this remote.
no, if I recall correctly it has it's own AC adapter, and works wirelessly, it may also have one or more IR blasters.
