Bought this for a self install for my comcast X1 service. This modem was the easiest part of the whole install. I didn't have to reconfigure my router at all and had Internet within 10 minutes of plugging everything in. I would highly recommend this to anyone who needs a reasonable modem. By buying this, you save so much money on your bill. Basically, $10/mo for 24 mo comes to $240.

what is the best range extender to use with this modem
This modem doesn't have a routing capability. You must first purchase a router. Find the compatible extender that works with your wireless router.

Does Motorola have a high speed modem with a switch?
I LIKE TO DISCONNECT FROM THE INTERNET WHEN NOT IN USE. MAYBE I COULD ADD SOME SORT OF SWITCH?? ANY IDEAS?
I would not turn this on and off repeatedly, it's not good for your device. There's a reason why they don't have a switch in the first place. (Electronic and thermodynamic reasons) But if you want to disable internet at certain times, I would buy a router that you can edit time tables that allow for you to turn on and off the Internet by software and not hardware. Or just unplug the Ethernet cable. Not that much more work than a switch. I would recommend the software fix however.

No it does not.

Yes this device will work with your airport base station. Your airport is the true device that communicates with your computer, not the modem.

Will this modem limit capabilities of Airport Extreme?
I want to get and Airport Extreme to put downstream of my modem, hoping to get the advantages of the 802.11ac Wi-Fi technology and dual band 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies. Does this modem limit the signal such that those features won't help me?
No. Your AirPort Extreme will actually limit the capabilities of this modem. Usually wireless networks will have a lower bandwidth than a hardware system.

Does this modem have routing capabilities?
No this modem does not. You must purchase a separate router. This device has only 1 Ethernet port. This does however give you greater flexibility in choosing your router that is best suited for your needs.

Is this compatible with Windows 8?
Yes this modem will be compatible with basically all OS. I would highly recommend using a wireless/wired router between the modem and any PC to allow you more flexibility and the ability to connect more than one device.
