What's great about it: Compact
What's not so great: Nothing
The little hub is a great addition to an older desktop. I used it to move USB ports to the front of the machine for easy access. It works wonderful and serves its purpose well.

If I have a wireless modem do I need a router to connect to the Internet on my desktop or can I just plug this in and set it up and it work?

If you have a wireless modem\access point and know your SSID and password you can just plug this in your PC, walk through the wizard, and start using.
