When we moved we had to upgrade our out of date modem, so we opted for this one as it had the router and modem in one. It was really easy to setup and we have a two story and I can get a great signal everywhere in the house and even in the garage and yard. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.

Can I get this model without the stand?

I am replacing another Samsung TV and already have a stand
TV's will always come with a stand, you will have to just remove it. Keep it and maybe Craigslist it and make and extra 10-15 bucks, somebody is bound to buy it.

Do I need to buy a HDMI cable if the local cable service provider provides a HD signal already

Yes, you do need the cable as it is the only cable that can carry a high definition signal from your box to the TV. if you don't use on e you might as well downgrade back to a tube TV and not use a HDTV set. Don't skimp on your cables
