I like this microwave and it does a good job for heating up a plate or bowl of food. I have run into one problem. Recently I noticed that when on high it was cycling as if I had selected a lower power. I pulled the plug on the machine to recycle the circuitry and so far it is working properly again. I intend to call Sharp and ask them about this. There is also a design feature that I don't like. In order to use less than full power it is necessary to hit the power button reducing the power by 10% each time. I would prefer being able to enter the power level from the keypad. For the money it is a good buy if it lasts.

does this have a handle to open the door, or how does it open?

Door opens by pushing a large button near the bottom right front of the unit.

Is this designed, made and/or assembled in the usa?

Where is this product designed? manufactured? assembled?
There is no mention anywhere in the manual or on the unit about where it is manufactured or designed or assembled. I would guess that means it was made overseas. Sharp has a facility in NJ but that is probably for distribution. You could call them and ask. 1800-237-4277

Light

I bought this microwave just couple of days ago. The light inside the microwave is not working from day 1. I was wondering if there is a way to activate the light? In case I need to change the bulb, how can I do that?

I don't see anything in the instructions about how to change the bulb. There doesn't appear to be a way to change it from the inside. i think you should call Sharp at 1800-237-4277 and ask them.

On a new unit the light should work but honestly, if I want to see what is going on in there I just open the door. I never replaced the light in my last microwave after it stopped working and I never missed it.

Clock feature on 309 YW

Bought this microwave for my parents who live out of town. They said the clock is a 24 hour clock. Is there a way to change it to a 12 hour clock?
Each time you push the clock button it toggles between 24 hour to 12 hour. After you have the time system you want you just use the keyboard to enter the current time.
