What's great about it: It's a VCR
What's not so great: It's not just a VCR
What I mean when I say it's not just a VCR is that attaching the VCR to the DVD makes it more expensive. I watch DVDs but I have a computer I can do that on. What I really need is a VCR to record TV shows to watch back. Get a DVR? Yeah, but you got to pay a subscription and anyway, I don't have one. I live off my VCR. I have had a little trouble with some jumpiness on the playback but I am thinking it is because my tapes are old. Might be time to buy some new VHS tapes. They don't last forever. Overall, I've been pretty satisfied. The Timer Recording Menu could be better. Daily means Monday-Friday and that's cool, but I wish there was an option for Saturday and Sunday as well for Daily. I also wish there was more than 8 slots, but I'll take what I got.

can you record broadcast TV programs? We don't have cable or satellite.
I don't think so. The VCR does not have a tuner. The only way you can television channels is if you have a cable or satellite box. If you don't go through the box you don't get the channels. I use to have a setup with a splitter. I had two connections so that when I was recording from cable I could switch and watch TV on another channel as in one of my connections wasn't through the cable box. I'm not able to do this with this VCR. I'm thinking if you don't have a box you can't watch broadcast TV when it's on and thus can't record from it, either.

can this play VHS tapes recorded in EP speed?
Yes. It's labeled as SLP mode. It's the same thing.
