I've been using the Roamio for about a month now after cancelling my former TV service. Before I go any further, the picture/ reception is only as good as the antenna signal that goes into it- it will NOT improve bad reception.
That said, this unit does everything the most advanced cable/satellite box I've seen will do- and more. What sold me on this model was there is NO subscription required- the TiVo service is included in the price. Setting the DVR is a snap and the One Pass feature makes searches a breeze- it finds a show/movie on broadcast and streaming service in a single search. I also love the Skip feature that allows you ( on recordings that support it ) to jump right over commercial breaks.

The 5" screen is great for "quick glance" viewing. The voice command activation works well but the radio has to be turned down for it to "hear" you. Traffic alerts come in handy but sometimes you are already in the traffic when the alert comes in. Oh, let's not forget the free lifetime map updates- a big plus over the older units that required you to buy updates.

I went from a 50" Panasonic Viera Plasma.to this one and have been very happy with it. After a lot of price shopping and reading reviews it came down to this and a Samsung. I decided on this one after seeing both in the store. The picture is incredible (If the signal source matters, I have DTV satellite) in all room lighting conditions. You'd swear the people are in the room with you. Sound is what I'd consider average but more than adequate for regular viewing. If you're watching a movie, you're going to want to use your surround system anyway regardless of the TV. There are a lot of smart TV apps but I normally only use Netflix and VUDU so I can't say too much about the rest. All in all, you can't go wrong with this one.

I have an antenna now and get limited channels. Will I get more with this? Will I atill get a good signal if the weather is bad?

What's needed to attach base?
What type/size screwdriver is needed to assemble and attach the base to the TV so I can set it on a stand?
The hardware and screws (8 total) are included. Ideally, you'll want a #1 Phillips and a #2 Phillips but you can get by with just the #2.
