What's great about it: Easy to use once you get the hang of it.
What's not so great: No so much, just a lot of features I wasn't accustomed to.
I have a bunch of old VCR tapes. I had been using a converter that I hooked up between an old VCR and my PC. Worked OK until the VCR wore out, then the next VCR, etc. Also, I had to buy expensive double-density black DVDs. This system is all in one. Put the VCR tape in one side, put a DVD-R in the other side, hit the "Dubbing" button on the remote, and walk away from it. Two hours later my VCR is copied to the DVD and I'm ready for the next one. It also plugs into my cable box, allowing me to make DVD's of cable shows....
I would recommend this to a friend!

can I burn or copy movies out of my digital camcorder hard drive directly to a dvd by plugging my camcorder into the tv

No, Your TV won't record anything. You have to plug it into your VCR.
