No better than AT&T 2Wire DSL Modem it replaced

What's great about it: Easy setup, Dual 300Mbps data transfer channels
What's not so great: Price is high, No built in surge protection.
This Netgear replaced an AT&T 2Wire modem that died from a nearby lightening strike (3 blocks away). This Netgear DSL Wireless modem
only lasted a month and it also died of a near lightning strike. Both modems died with the same symptoms. On both modems only the wireless/internet circuits died so the surge was only on the DSL lines and not the AC power lines. The DSL line coming into the house is a simple straight wire connection without any surge/lightning protection in the AT&T DSL wire network. I have now installed a battery backup unit that has surge protection on the RJ11 DSL sockets.

Will this modem/router work with att dsl?
The "
NETGEAR - Dual Band Wireless N600 Router with Built-in DSL Modem"
works with the regular Bellsouth AT&T wired DSL lines. It will not work with the AT&T U-verse Internet fiber optic lines.
